The large chestnut tree at Castel Lusenegg stands as a testament to the natural history of Laion and all of South Tyrol, making it a true monument. Its trunk is a microcosm inhabited by insects and animals; it is home to lichens, mosses, and small plants. Its bark, weathered by time, reveals mottled patterns of the most varied designs, highlighting the longevity of this creature, which is estimated to have been born 600–700 years ago.

The Senioren Wohnheim, with its residents, in turn represents the human history of the town, and in this sense I wanted to draw a parallel between the two.

The wrinkles on people’s faces become the cracks in the bark, both telling, in their own way, stories of time.
